OpticsApplet v4  requires a Java 1.1 enabled browser that allows JavaScript to applet communication. It is available here for use in non-commercial educational endeavors.

This applet allows users to simulate standard optic elements (lens, mirror, dielectrics, sources, apertures) and observe the ways that light rays propagate through these elements. The applet is designed to be scripted but may also be used to construct optical systems using buttons and a click and drag metaphor.

• Laser cavity. Demonstration of a stable laser cavity.
• Thick lens. Demonstration of a thick lens. Using matrix transformations, with no spherical aberration.
• Spherical Aberration. Demonstration of spherical aberration that occurs with a real mirror.
• Lens within and without a dielectric of higher index.
• Internal Reflection. Occurs when light is going from higher to lower index at large angles. Uses Snell's Law.
